01/28/09 - Mexico Beach Gumbo Cook-Off It’s that time of year again! The 11th Annual Gumbo Cook-off will be held in Mexico Beach on Saturday, February 14th. The activities will begin at Sunset Park, adjacent to the El Governor Motel, at 10:30 AM CT and will last until the fun wears out. If this year’s festivities are anything like last, this will be an event you will not want to miss. Last year, there were 36 contestants competing for the title of Best Gumbo. You will want to bring not only your cooking skills, but also your flare for decorating. That’s half the fun, decorating your table with the most outrageous Mardi Gras theme. In addition to the fierce competition of who’s got the best culinary skills, there will also be live music, other types of food and cold beverages. This is a mixture ensured to have a great time!
