About the Area ~ Mexico Beach Rentals

Mexico Beach

Names, like a key, often unlock the mysteries to a town’s true history.  Certainly    Mexico Beach derives its name from the early days of the Spanish Conquistadors; but don’t confuse it with anything south of the border.  This modern day vacation wonder, while having deep roots in our ancient migration of Native American inhabitants in their search for a steady supply of food and a comfortable environ and the exploitation of the Spanish throughout their “God, Gold, and Glory” Days, is fast becoming the ideal spot for the perfect family vacation.  So hurry up and make your plans; the history is here but the fun in the sun pleasures awaits you.

When surrounding counties endure traffic jams, overcrowded beaches, mounds of garbage, side-by-side tenting, and often boisterous crowds, all you and your family have to do to live the life of peace and quiet and total relaxation, is head down highway 98 and pull into the city limits of Mexico Beach, Florida.  Nestled between the town of Port St. Joe and Panama City in the northwestern curve of the Florida panhandle, Mexico Beach continues to be known for its laid –backed, down-home, folksy atmosphere.  Mexico Beach has been entertaining families for generations and generations.  Although Mexico Beach has grown from a tiny, almost unknown community of less than 5,000 into a rather upscale, bustling beach destination, it still maintains that fast, friendly touch that welcomes guests from all walks of life and every corner of the globe.  It may be that the sons and daughters, or even grandsons and granddaughters of earlier beach residents are the very ones who will facilitate your vacation plans and continue to render that same high quality of care, friendly business relationship, and care and concern for your complete vacation satisfaction.  In today’s business world, that stability and constancy is indeed a rarity.

Although small in size geographically, Mexico Beach is huge in numbers of activities available to the beach lover.  This wonderful little piece of beach heaven is richly blessed with a plethora of environmentally friendly, sun, sand, and sea activities.  If you are a family with young children, feel free to sit back and relax and let the little ones frolic and play in the shallow waves along the ocean shore.  Seldom do we experience dangerous undertows here, so there’s no need to fear.  Go ahead and jump in!  Don’t hesitate; go for that expectant thrill that comes from diving head long into the emerald green waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  What may be considered extremely dangerous along other Florida waters, our little piece of the Gulf therapeutically sways gently to and fro bringing true peace to the body and soul.  There is nothing more luxurious and soothing than the comfort that comes from slicing and gliding and floating through the massaging motions of the gulf waters.  As for the kids, after a day of dodging the foamy white waves; digging for rainbow-colored periwinkles; chasing the tiny, shimmering minnows; and building and re-building that perfect medieval castle, rest assured after a satisfying supper, they will sleep like the angels for hours on end.

While we have plenty of single family vacation homes, we have many other fine accommodations such as townhomes and multilevel units that will provide the perfect fit for you and your family.  To make your stay even more enjoyable while spending time in Mexico Beach, the City and businesses have endeavored to preserve plenty of public beach access with the ease of “walkovers” to make a safe, short, comfortable trek to our glistening gulf waters and our arctic-white sands all the while completely protecting the natural habitat of the swaying swoosh of sprouting sea oats, the protecting pillars of stately palms, and emerging beds of nesting sea turtles.   Make sure you take the basic “necessities” because when you get to the beach, you won’t want to leave.  For many, the needs are few: only a chair, a towel, and possibly an umbrella.  For others, a little more may be required.  Some families start out early, setting up their tents, while claiming the perfect spot for all their fishing gear, ice chests full of snacks and beverages, floats, bogie boards, crab nets, snorkeling masks and fins, and beach games that continue to boggle the mind.  While other areas seem to discourage this “make yourself at home” attitude, it is the attitude of choice at Mexico Beach.!

Your visit may be a return for more serious fishing so you probably already know all the ins and outs of making a successful catch.  But if you are new to the area, you will find plenty of establishments eager to assist you in your pursuits.  There are marinas and boat launches, the City’s own Canal Park and Fishing Pier but if you prefer to cast out on your own; chose from dozens of spots dotting our shoreline.  If these still don’t meet your need, you can slide into your own or rented kayak, relax and enjoy an enlightening eco-tour, charter a trip with professional boat captains, or sail out on your own fulfilling your own personal water delights.  So whether you want to wet your hook boat, beach, canal, or pier side, there is plenty of room for your line of success in the bountiful waters in and around Mexico Beach.  Whatever you do though, don’t forget to check out http://www.myfwc.com to find any recent changes on licensing and permitting for fishing from Florida’s shores, a piers, or vessels.

If after a great catch, you’re too tired to do the cooking, visit one of our area’s many fine restaurants.  Perhaps you will find they will prepare your catch especially for your taste.  But whatever you do, don’t leave without trying out some of the many delicious delights and varied assortments of Florida’s finest seafood prepared to perfection.  After all when the seafood served up is only hours from having slipped from the gulf; how can it not be delicious - no matter how it is prepared?  And if you find your taste turns to the land, there are plenty of platters that will be pleasing to your palate.  And the view and ambience of watching the sun set over the gulf or gulls and pelicans soar through the salt air makes an eating experience one that you will cherish forever.

Hundreds of vacationers yearly crowd the nearby St. Joseph Bay, snorkeling and gathering their limits of sweet, delicious bay scallops.  Others simply enjoy the underwater view of our local waters and the unique, pristine beauty found below.  Often is seen those water warriors cutting through the waves with their powerful wave runners, sometimes followed more slowly and smoothly by an occasional brave parasailer whose idea of fun is a little more relaxed.  If, however, you seek more challenge and excitement in the deeper waters of the Gulf of Mexico, you may want to plan a deep water dive.  With the purpose of protecting, maintaining, and preserving our underwater environment, the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association has dedicated its time and energy to the building of many different forms and fashions of habitats for hundreds of marine species.  From all accounts a dive to witness first hand, many of these locations and habitats are unparalleled in the spectacular views and aquatic imagery.  What a memory to take home!

No matter when you choose to come or what accommodations you prefer, a trip to Mexico Beach is a like time spent in paradise.  It is a part of Florida that has resisted the many ugly faces of change that comes from unplanned and uncharted development.  Because of this eye on what’s best for the community and its visitors, you  more often see those physically fit joggers running, or perhaps elderly couples hand-in-hand walking, or the young or young at heart swiftly pedaling – all down newly laid pavers that accentuates this ideal.  This is but one fine example of how those who make up what is Mexico Beach continue to put forth what is good and what is right for all concerned.  The varied visitors have grown in number and have continued to select Mexico Beach as their Florida beach of choice.  Why else would you so often find the bride and groom and all the attending parties and guests enjoying a sunset ceremony, enveloped in an array of sun burnt colors with the peacefully rippling waves adding to the backdrop of nuptial sounds?  Why else would you see the speckled tapestry of tents, sewn a little more closely now, as many families find solstice and sanctuary that comes with the aqua blue ocean and its sparkling white partner?   Again, why else would you see people sitting, - simply, sitting - on a deck, on a shore, on a pier; and gazing out all around at what only their minds and hearts could reveal?  Could the answers be that Mexico Beach offers up visions of times well spent that are pleasing and refreshing and relaxing to all who make it their special place of choice?
